About the PPMO

Welcome to the Progressive Party of Missouri: A politics based on thinking globally and acting locally.

We are the Missouri affiliate of the national Green Party – US, a federation of 42 state Green parties.
Together with Greens across the US, we are grassroots activists, environmentalists, and advocates for peace, social justice and human rights.
We have had enough of corporate dominated, money driven politics and want to replace it with true democracy in which all citizens participate.
Although Greens participate in social justice and peace actions, as well as work toward small-scale, locally owned economic ventures, this is not enough.
We must build a strong and vibrant political party that can challenge our corporate and money driven politics at all levels of government.
Members of the Green Party of Missouri are committed to bringing the voice of the people to all political decision-making in Missouri and we invite you to join us.

Issues

In the wake of the 2004 elections, it’s clear that American needs a strong independent, non-corporate party more than ever.
Major issues and concerns of the American people are not being addressed by either political party.
There are plenty of creative solutions for these intractable problems, all we lack is the political will.
To create that political will is the promise of the Green Party of the United States and the Green Party of Missouri and the platform of our candidates. The issues we believe in include:
  • Universal Health Care with a single payer system
  • Living wage that ensures that people working full time can support themselves without public assistance.
  • Free, quality public education, pre-school through college and free child care for Missouri’s working parents
  • Unions’ right to organize, and repeal of the Taft Hartley act
  • Instant Run-off voting and public financing of our elections
  • Demand a new voting rights act that will end intimidation of voters, end privatization of vote counting, provide auditable paper trails on all voting machines, and end the practice of partisan oversight of state election systems.
  • Support for family farms and sustainable farming methods
  • Recognition of the threat of global warming with incentives for renewable energy, public transit, and fuel- saving vehicles
  • Preemptive, unilateral wars must be stopped and replaced with multinational peacekeeping efforts
  • The grossly excessive military expenditures must be redirected to under funded social programs like education and health care.
  • Protection for our Bill of Rights and repeal of the dangerous provisions of the Patriot Acts ! and 2
  • Renegotiate global trade agreements to protect workers rights and the environment with special concern for the outsourcing of American jobs. It is only the US that puts corporate interests over those of its people.
  • Support community-based, small scale economic ventures and living simply on the land.
  • Reverse the corporate takeover of our media which have become agencies for business interests and mouthpieces for our imperial government.
  • Take action against predatory lending in Missouri

  • Restore states rights’ to revoke corporate charters and support legal actions that challenge the right of corporations to free speech.
  • Protect and fully fund social security, don’t privatize it, don’t raid it.
  • Women’s rights must be protected and expanded to guarantee each woman’s right to be a full participant in society, free from sexual harassment and with choice as whether to have a child.
  • Ban logging in Missouri’s old growth forests and end clear-cutting.
